When I first got into chakra healing I thought I was going to fly through all of them and come out smelling like roses. That didn’t happen. I was stuck on my root Chakra for weeks before I was able to move on to the next one.
The Root Chakra is located in the base of the spine and it is responsible for your sense of safety and security.
The official word for it is the Muladhara and it breaks down into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base”.
When your root chakra is off most likely the other chakras are out of whack as well because this is your foundation.
I realized that my self esteem, my sense of security, and much more was rooted in the wrong things. They were rooted in things that were temporary and people. Rooting yourself in people is very dangerous because that makes them responsible for your happiness. It then puts far too much pressure on them and it keeps you from forming a healthy relationship.
That feeling of security usually has very little to do with what you have right now and more to do with how you felt as a child. Were your basic needs taken care of? Did you feel safe and secure?  A person can be rich and have an unbalanced root chakra. You will usually see this unbalance manifesting as greed because they don’t feel like they have enough.
For me, it was manifesting itself in ugly ways. Anxiety has always run rampant in my life and I realized that a big chunk of it had to do with my childhood. My mom has always done the best she could and I love her. However, that doesn’t change the fact that we lived in poverty and have been in and out of shelters.
So I had a lot of issues around money and around my sense of safety and well being. I was filtering all of my experiences through a very dirty chakra. My view of the world was warped.
So what did I do?
I meditated, journaled, and faced a lot of truths about myself.
Some may look at their parent and point but finger but it’s not your parent’s job to heal you. That’s your responsibility and we’ve been gifted with the tools to get through it and to be healthy.
After I did a lot of cleaning…literally and spiritually… I was finally released to work on my other chakras.
Symptoms of an Under Active Root Chakra
You could experience feelings of disconnect from your body and from your environment. Depression and anxiousness can be your normal state of being especially when dealing with your daily responsibilities and interactions with others. Those with under active root chakras can also have problems with setting boundaries and with discipline. Consistent financial problems are a sign as well.
Symptoms of an Over Active Root Chakra
You can have a short fuse and often be overwhelmed by anger. People with over active root chakras have been known to be aggressive towards other people and towards life in general. They can be seen as controlling and inflexible. They often reject change and base their value in material things.
